Garuda - OSDD workshop at Bangalore

A one day collaborative workshop to of GARUDA Grid with Open Source Drug Discovery (OSDD) was held at C-DAC Knowledge Park, Bangalore on 28 September 2010.

The OSDD team lead by Dr. Zakir Thomas, Project Director, OSDD and Head DG's Technical Cell, CSIR. The delegates from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) Delhi, Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology (IGIB) Delhi, Indian Institute of Chemical Biology (IICB) Kolkata, Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) Delhi, Malabar Christian College Univ. of Calicut Kerala, Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore, and Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine (IIIM) Jammu attended the workshop.

Dr. Sarat Chandra Babu, Executive Director, C-DAC KP, Bangalore welcomed the group and delivered the opening remarks. Dr. Subrata Chattopadhyay, Chief investigator GARUDA presented the GARUDA activities, achievements and roadmap. Dr. Anshu Bharadwaj, IGIB gave an overview of OSDD activities and requirements of grid resources for OSDD.

Dr. Samir Bramhachari, DG CSIR and Chief Mentor - OSDD, addressed the participants remotely over Skype. He said it was an achievement for India to be the first in the world to pioneer the Open Source Model for Drug Discovery. He congratulated both teams on taking this step and conveyed best wishes for OSDD - GARUDA collaboration to reach the heights of success.

OSDD members enthusiastically participated in the meet. They were openly appreciative of C-DAC for providing high end national e-infrastructure through GARUDA Grid which can be used by the Indian scientists and large student communities even from remote locations. It was unanimously felt that the OSDD - GARUDA collaboration will lead to a true innovative and inclusive research initiative for the societal need of the nation.
