Under the National Grid computing initiative - GARUDA it has been the tradition to conduct Boot Camps at various user organizations. Two such Garuda Boot Camps were conducted on April 20, 2012. One at the Space Application Center (SAC), Ahmedabad and the other at School of Computational and Integrative Sciences, Jawaharlal Nehru University Delhi.
In this workshop various topics like Grid concepts, Garuda Grid overview, Grid security and IGCA, grid Access methods and Tools, Garuda Storage Resource Management, Application enablement on grid were focused. All the sessions were handled by and Ms. Shikha Mehrotra and Mr. Ramesh Naidu of C-DAC Knowledge Park, Bangalore.Hands-on session was arranged on the second half of the workshop for the benefit of the participants. These sessions were focused on Garuda registration, Data Management, Job Submission through command line and Grid Portal.
Mr. A. S. Kiran Kumar, Director of SAC, gave the welcome speech and addressed the opening session. Dr. Haresh Bhatt gave brief introduction about SAC experience with Garuda and Importance of Garuda to Scientific Community. Total 28 Participants attended the Boot Camp. The Participants were from SATCOM and Navigation Payload Area (SNPA), Planning and Projects Group (PPG), ITND, Earth, Ocean, Atmosphere, Planetary Sciences and Applications Area (EPSA), Mechanical Engineering Systems Area (MESA), Microwave Remote Sensors Area (MRSA) and Signal and Image Processing Area (SIPA) Departments of SAC Ahmedabad.

Prof. Indira Ghosh, Dean of School of Computational and Integrative Sciences, JNU. Dr. Subrata Chattopadhyay, PI of Garuda Project gave an overview on Garuda Architecture, Tools, Grid support available etc. He also announced the launch of Garuda user forum. Garuda tools such as Garuda Access Portal (GAP), Request Tracker (RT), VOMS, IGCA etc were demonstrated along with command-line job submission on Grid. It was followed by hands-on-session where users could port their own applications on Garuda and submit the jobs along with some of the widely used Bioinformatics codes. Dr. Andrew Lynn from JNU co-ordinated the event and the Workshop was conducted by Ms. Janaki and Mr. Ravikanth from C-DAC, Knowledge Park, Bangalore.
