A GARUDA workshop titled, "Emerging Technologies for Collaborative Health Care for the Nation" was conducted on May 13 -14, 2011 at SGPGIMS, Lucknow. This event was jointly organized by the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) and Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduation Institute of Medical Science (SGPGIMS) at Lucknow for GARUDA partners and potential grid users.

The inaugural address was delivered by Prof. R.K. Sharma, Director, SGPGIMS. Thanking C-DAC for organizing the workshop at Lucknow, Prof Sharma said that many areas like Software, Tools, and Information Technology are usually not exposed to doctors as a part of the curriculum. He also informed that the simulation method is very important for doctors undergoing training, to gain good exposure.

The objective of the workshop was to make GARUDA Grid more accessible to the application developers and users. This event was focused on promoting GARUDA usage, understanding user requirements and more application enablement on Grid. Representatives from eminent institutes such as SGPGIMS, CDRI, IET, IIM, and IIT Delhi participated in the workshop. Other Institutes like CMC Vellore, Kanpur Medical College, Meerut Medical College, Allahabad Medical College, ILBS Delhi, IGMH Shimla, and JDHW Hospital Bhutan joined the workshop through remote network. National Knowledge Network remote presentation was delivered by Shri R.S.Mani, NCI from Delhi. The collaborative classroom application and testing remote presentation was delivered by Shri.Satyanarayan C-DAC, Hyderabad.

Earlier, the welcome address was delivered by Prof U.K. Misra, Dean, SGPGIMS, Lucknow. In his address, he emphasized on collaboration between the medical and engineering knowledge to create better infrastructure. He expressed that the workshop is the right step in this direction. Dr Subrata Chattopadhyay, C-DAC, Bangalore delivered the workshop overview. He expressed his sincere gratitude to SGPIMS for hosting this GARUDA workshop. The vote of thanks was proposed by Prof S.K. Workshop included presentations and demonstrations covering various topics like GARUDA Grid overview, Emerging Information Technology (IT) for Collaborative Health Care - Grid, Cloud, National Knowledge Network, IGCA Certification procedure, Successful applications on GARUDA, Access methods, Medical College Network design, Data and Storage Management Solutions, GARUDA help desk, Collaborative Class Room application that were presented by the technical team of Mr. R. Sridharan, Mr. Shashi Shekar and Ms. Divya M.
