March 17th -18th 2011
The GARUDA Grid Operations and Administration (GGOA) workshop was conducted on 17th and 18th March 2011 at Knowledge Park, Centre for Advanced Computing (C-DAC), Bangalore.
Objective of this GGOA workshop was to educate and strengthen knowledge and applications of System, Cluster and Grid administrators, so that they can extend better support for GARUDA operations and maintain Grid Infrastructure.
Dr. Subrata Chattopadhyay, Chief Investigator-GARUDA welcomed all participants. He mentioned that since January 2008 GGOA workshop series had started, to address the issue of complexities in running GARUDA Components, and its maintenance. He also said that GARUDA is not just C-DAC’s operation, it is a National service.
Dr N Sarat Chandra Babu, Executive Director, C-DAC, Bangalore addressed the participants and said that for GARUDA System to succeed, system administrators play a big role. He expressed that proper policy usage and enforcement is essential. Applications like OSDD is important and resources should gear up to the needs.
Shri Rajan Joseph, Director General, C-DAC said that C-DAC considers partnership for progress and GARUDA is one of the prestigious project. GARUDA user should concentrate only on usage not on platform or infrastructure. Grid should add value to users. Today's applications require more computational resources to solve complex problems. So, he said everyone should aggressively engage to achieve the set goals in reasonable time.
GARUDA users, System and Grid Administrators and non-GARUDA Partners participated in this workshop. Total 30 participants from VSSC Trivandrum, NCBS Bangalore, IIIT Hyderabad, SGPGIMSc Lucknow, IGIB Delhi , IPR Gandhinagar, JNU Delhi, Sathyabama University Chennai and C-DAC attended this workshop.
In this workshop various topics like Cluster Grid Cloud Concepts, Networking, National Knowledge Network Architecture, GARUDA network architecture with NKN connectivity, Cluster readiness for Grid, End Point Security, GARUDA Access Portal, GARUDA Operations, Critical services on GARUDA Grid, Tools, Case studies were presented. Demo on areas such as Cluster configuration, GARUDA Access Portal, Request Trackers, Paryavekshanam, Resource Administrators Tool, GARUDA Storage Resource Manager, Short Lived Certificate, and GARUDA job submission was arranged.
Participants visited CTSF (C-DAC's Terascale Supercomputing Facility) on the second day. The workshop was concluded successfully on 18th March 2011. Dr Subrata Chattopadhyay, Mr. R Sridharan and Ms N Mangala participated in Group Discussion and the closing session.
